Extendicare was pleased to welcome partners from across our network at Lionhead Golf Club and Conference Centre for the 11th annual charity golf tournament in support of the Alzheimer Society of Canada (ASC).

For more than a decade, Extendicare has brought golfers together in support of the ASC’s critical work to improve the quality of life for Canadians affected by Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, and advance research around causes and treatment. This year we raised close to $150,000 to add to the continued success of the long-running event.

“Thanks to the support and sponsorship over the past 11 years, we have raised more than $1.65 million for the Alzheimer Society of Canada. This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without our partners’ generosity,” says Extendicare’s CEO, Dr. Michael Guerriere.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Extendicare and their generous sponsors for their unwavering commitment to advancing dementia research in Canada,” says Jeannie Lasquinha, Vice President, Philanthropy of the ASC.

According to the ASC more than 650,000 people live with dementia in Canada. This number is expected to nearly triple by 2050.

The ASC says this growth underscores the urgent need for innovative research and compassionate care, with families and caregivers expected to provide nearly 1.4 billion hours of support annually, equivalent to over 690,000 full-time jobs.

This year’s focus was on raising funds to enhance community supports and increased access to resources for those living with Alzheimer's and other dementias, as well as supporting their families and care givers.

Thank you to all the participants, sponsors, and donors for being a part of such an impactful event.
